In the 1980s, there was a supergroup called The Power Station. This group consisted of singer Robert Palmer, drummer Tony Thompson (formerly of Chic), and two members from Duran Duran, John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar). Bernard Edwards, who was also from Chic, acted as the recording producer for the group. He also temporarily took on the role of manager. The band was formed in New York City in late 1984, during a break in Duran Duran's busy schedule. The name "The Power Station" was chosen as a tribute to the recording studio where their album was both conceived and recorded.
