Biography
India, officially known as the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country located in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country in terms of land area and the second most populous country with over 1.2 billion inhabitants. India holds the distinction of being the most populous democracy in the world. Adjacent to the Indian Ocean in the south, the Arabian Sea in the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal in the southeast, it also shares land borders with Pakistan to the west. To the northeast, India shares borders with China, Nepal, and Bhutan, while its eastern borders extend to Burma and Bangladesh. In the Indian Ocean, India is nearby Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Furthermore, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
