Led by marimba player Julius Wechter, the Baja Marimba Band was a well-liked musical group. Initially, it was created by producer Herb Alpert to capitalize on the "south of the border" trend that Alpert's own Tijuana Brass had started. Surprisingly, the Baja Marimba Band ended up having a longer shelf life than the Tijuana Brass. This was largely due to producer Chuck Barris, who showcased the Baja Marimba Band's music on his game shows until the mid-1970s.
