Biography

Woodrow Wilson Guthrie, known as Woody Guthrie, was a notable American singer-songwriter and folk musician. Throughout his career, he left behind a vast musical legacy comprising of numerous political, traditional, and children's songs, as well as ballads and improvised music. One of his famous trademarks was displaying the slogan "This Machine Kills Fascists" on his guitar while performing. Among his extensive repertoire, his most well-known song is "This Land Is Your Land." Many of his recorded songs are preserved in the Library of Congress. Guthrie's impact as a songwriter has influenced numerous renowned artists including Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Pete Seeger, Joe Strummer, Billy Bragg, Jeff Tweedy, and Tom Paxton.
