Biography

Peter Seeger, also known as Pete Seeger, is a revered American folk singer. During the 1940s, he gained popularity by appearing on radio programs across the country. In the early 1950s, as a member of The Weavers, his music reached its peak with several successful songs, including their rendition of Lead Belly's "Goodnight, Irene," which held the number one position on the charts for 13 consecutive weeks in 1950. Unfortunately, The Weavers faced significant challenges during the McCarthy Era and were subjected to blacklisting. Nevertheless, Seeger resurfaced in the 1960s as a prominent figure in the public eye, using his music to advocate for causes such as international disarmament, civil rights, and environmental awareness.
