Julie Deborah Kavner, an American actress, gained recognition for her role as Brenda Morgenstern in the sitcom Rhoda. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for her outstanding supporting performance in the show. However, she is best known for her voice work as Marge Simpson on the popular animated series, The Simpsons. In addition to Marge, she also provides voices for other characters, including Marge’s mother and her sisters. Kavner's distinctive voice and improvisation skills led her to her first acting role in Rhoda in 1974, and she received multiple Emmy nominations and one win for her portrayal of Brenda. In 1987, Kavner began appearing on The Tracey Ullman Show, which featured animated shorts about a dysfunctional family. The producers asked her to voice Marge for these shorts, which later became the basis for The Simpsons. Kavner is known for being a private person and has a clause in her contract, allowing her to avoid video promotions for The Simpsons. Her portrayal of Marge earned her another Primetime Emmy Award and an Annie Award nomination for her performance in The Simpsons Movie. While she is often cast in supportive or funny roles, Kavner has expressed her dislike for being typecast. She took on her first leading role in the 1992 film This Is My Life. Kavner has also appeared in live-action films, including those written by Woody Allen and the Adam Sandler comedy Click.
