Melanie Jayne Chisholm, also known as Melanie C, is a multi-talented English artist. She gained fame as a member of the popular girl group, the Spice Girls, where she was referred to as Sporty Spice. Together, they sold over 85 million records worldwide. Chisholm embarked on a solo career in the late 1990s, collaborating with Canadian singer Bryan Adams on the global hit "When You're Gone". Her debut solo album, Northern Star, was released in 1999 and achieved great success, reaching number 1 in Sweden and number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. It became the best-selling solo album by any Spice Girls member, selling over 4 million copies worldwide and earning numerous platinum and gold certifications. Northern Star generated four top 5 singles, two of which reached number 1 in the UK. Chisholm's second album, Reason, was released in 2003 and sold over 500,000 copies. It reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and produced one top 10 single. In 2004, Chisholm established her own record label, Red Girl Records. Her third album, Beautiful Intentions, was released in 2005 and achieved international success. It reached number 24 in the UK, number 15 in Germany, and spent 9 weeks at number 1 in Portugal. Beautiful Intentions sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide and produced three singles, one of which reached number 10 in the UK and one that topped the charts in Germany. Chisholm's fourth studio album, This Time, was released in 2007 and became her first top 10 album in Switzerland. While it received mixed reviews, several singles from the album achieved success in different parts of Europe. In 2007, Chisholm reunited with the Spice Girls for a greatest hits album and a world tour. She continued her solo career with the release of The Sea in 2011, followed by The Night EP in 2012. Chisholm has since released two more albums, Stages in 2012 and Version of Me in 2016. Over the years, she has sold over 105 million records, with 20 million sold as a solo artist. Chisholm holds the record for co-writing the most UK Number 1 singles by a female artist and is the only female artist to have topped the charts as a soloist, in a duo, quartet, and quintet. She has achieved 12 UK Number 1 singles, making her the second female artist, and the first British female artist, with the most chart-topping singles in the UK. Chisholm's impressive career has earned her numerous awards and nominations, including three World Music Awards, five Brit Awards, and multiple Billboard and MTV awards. She is celebrated for her contributions to the music industry and remains a beloved figure in popular culture.
