Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, commonly known as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, record producer, and activist. She was born on March 28, 1986, and grew up in New York City. Lady Gaga attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart for her education and briefly studied at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts before deciding to focus on her music career. She started performing in Manhattan's Lower East Side rock music scene and was eventually signed to Streamline Records in 2007. Lady Gaga's impressive vocal skills caught the attention of recording artist Akon, who then signed her to his label Kon Live Distribution.
