Biography

In 1996, British Alternative Rock band Coldplay was formed by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. Initially called Pectoralz, they later changed their name to Starfish when bassist Guy Berryman joined the group. Completing the line-up, drummer Will Champion came on board, also performing as a backing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Manager Phil Harvey is often regarded as an unofficial fifth member. In 1998, the band decided to rename themselves Coldplay and went on to record and release three EPs. These included Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999, and The Blue Room in the same year. The Blue Room marked their first release under a major label, after signing with Parlophone.
