Biography

Russ Case, born on March 19, 1912, was an American trumpeter and bandleader. He gained recognition for leading jazz and light music orchestras throughout his career. Case was born in Hamburg, Iowa and started his professional journey at WOC (AM) in Davenport, Iowa. There, he arranged and played trumpet for local bands on broadcasts. He then went on to work with Frankie Trumbauer in Chicago and Paul Whiteman in New York City before being hired by NBC to arrange for radio and television. Case became well-known for leading orchestras that accompanied a variety of singers, including Eddy Arnold and Julius LaRosa. However, he gained the most fame for directing ensembles behind Perry Como, including on Como's popular single "Till the End of Time." In addition, Case's name was associated with numerous light orchestral albums released during the 1950s. He also arranged music for The Jackie Gleason Show in the 1960s. Moreover, Case served as a conductor for cast recordings of famous musicals such as Finian's Rainbow, The King and I, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, and Oklahoma!. Sadly, Russ Case passed away at the age of 52 in Miami in 1964.
