Before the Mountain and the Ocean
Ever took a form
Was the ol' belabored
Breathing of the Storm
The salt, the wind, the rise
Then gone
Still, the storm rages on
Life, love, and the hurricane
Someday gonna throw me on over
'Til then gonna play the game
Rollin' on a wave
Rollin' on a wave
Go again
Few could tell you
'Bout the storm that broke
Early Sumer '82
A fevered sun hung
Over a Texas sky
The air was thick and still
The sky a dead-eyed blue
The change was subtle
As a baby's breath
Just enough to tip the scale
And then the wind began
To spin and gather speed
And go again
'Til it was all that I could do
To hold my ground against the gale
Lightning passionate and searing
Thunder shook me by the skin
Rain clapped down
So hard against me
I felt like it had flipped me
And the storm now roiled
Within
Life, love, and the hurricane
Someday gonna throw me on over
'Til then gonna play the game
Rollin' on a wave
Rollin' on a wave
Go again
And I still got some fight left
Even after everything
A storm plays out
Just like an ol' Baptist Hymn
Where some struggle in the verse
Can really make that chorus sing
Oh is Sisyphus still climbing
His ancient mountain in the East?
And does he care the water's rising?
Lapping at his heals
While he's working on his masterpiece
And do you feel the tension building
The bow is drawn across the string
And those who dare to make the journey
Join in with the angels singing
On the edge of everything
And maybe, yeah, this world is drifting
There's no anchor holds the peace
The storm is purging
And its lifting
It started there in Texas
And brought me here
To sweet release
